2012 - Year of Dragon.

From many sources, 2012 would be a difficult year for me.
Well, there will be many many changes, some expected and some unexpected.

In case you're totally new to my blog or haven't been following my blog for quite sometime.. In the last 2-3weeks of 2011, I left my job of 1year 9months. Just 2 weeks ago, I started working in a new company. That's the first change. My plan is to adopt a more positive mindset and carry on my work hard spirit this year. Gam-ba-tte!

Next change, the current place I'm staying at, will soon be no longer be available to me and I need to move out. So currently Defector and I am looking at purchasing a house from the resale market. Many people asks us to wait as the prices for houses are set to drop soon (probably the first in many many years of going up, up, up..) But sad to say, we don't really have much choice as of current state.

With a place of our own, there's so much to do, so much to buy.. I'm really excited, cause I can finally have my own kitchen! Though not really looking forward to cleaning a whole house. Currently I only need to take care of 1 room and I feel like I've no energy already! :(

Then there's the Wedding! 22nd June 2012 (Friday). In about 5 months and I feel like I've so much more things to do!!! Anyone want to help me??? Those want to sign up for SISTERS group fill up form already?? I will ask Defector bring only Single and eligible BROTHERS. :p hahas. joking only ah.. though if got request I think I can ask ask ah... hahas..

Gathered from all the comments I've read, I've compiled a list of wants.. If you can only choose any one of the below, what will you choose?

A. Security and Stability

B. Must have passion to help the needy, pay tagged to lowest income people about $500 a month or best if it's unpaid volunteer help

C. Must make sure every single one in the country got cheap food, got cheap house, got cheap domestic helper, got job and every year must increase pay 10% even if job scope stay the same and don't collect tax from everyone only collect from bosses ah cause they earn so much ah...

D. World class public transport that cannot be packed, must have seat every time you get on and must never breakdown, always on time and must every 1 min or best is every 30 seconds got 1 train to go everywhere, so will never be late and never have to wait for it cause it's world class de. not First class, Business class or Economy class.. it's WORLD class leh..

E. Domestic helper, construction workers, cleaners, teachers, doctors, nurse, engineers, officers, CEO, CFO, director, executives, all the office high pay jobs all must be Singaporeans so the country no place to learn "bad habits".

F. Weather report must be 100% true, and cannot ever flood. Best if can built one big big shelter cover the whole island so it will never ever cause flooding. If the water level raises from melting ice and cause flooding, the Government must find way to lower the water level without using much of tax payer's money, maybe all the public servants all take bucket then collect water and walk to desert to pour there.

Remember can only choose one only ah....
All I want is Security and Stability in my country.

So what do you really want from the Government?

Notice sometimes we purchase similar nail colours without realizing it? What you see on the bottle might not show the actual colour that will be on your nails.. Which is why I like to see people posting photos of swatches. :D

Today I'm going to show some of the common colours that I own and hopefully will ease your pain of trying to get the colour you want. :)

1. The Noticeable Pink Battle
China Glaze's Dance Baby Vs OPI's Sparrow Me the Drama

Dance Baby's pops up more, Sparrow Me the Drama's more pastel.

2. The Blue Greens Battle
OPI's Mermaid's Tears Vs China Glaze's Kinetic Candy Vs China Glaze's For Audrey

Mermaid's Tears's more of greyish kind of green, Kinetic Candy's more light bluish, For Audrey's quite close to Tiffany blue.

3. The Glitter's Battle
OPI's Servin' Up Sparkle Vs China Glaze's Techno Vs China Glaze's Fairy Dust

If you ask me, I would say Servin' Up Sparkle, Techno and Fairy Dust are pretty much same, only difference is that Fairy Dust doesn't have the holographic hexagonal pieces thingy and Servin' up Sparkle has more tiny glitters.

Servin' Up Sparkle - Holographic hexagonal pieces + more tiny glitters.
Techno - similar to Servin' up Sparkle but sightly lesser tiny glitters.
Fairy Dust - Only tiny holographic glitters.

If these doesn't help you make up your mind, maybe searching for more swatches will help you in making the choice. :D

Last batch of nail polish for 2011. :D

After the previous OPI batch in November, I kept telling myself no more OPIs for 2011 but when China Glaze came out with these numbers I just can't stop my fingers..... :p

The EVIL people who keep bringing in pretty nail polishes at affordable rates.. I need to buy a special box just to keep my babies soon! :p

Now whenever my husband sees this sign, he knows it's my nail stuffs. :p

I-Relax @ Nail Suite

Bought a voucher through Streetdeal.sg for Classic Manicure and Pedicure at $22 only! :D

It's easy to locate, very nicely decorated. Chairs are comfortable and staffs are friendly. Spacious and clean feel.

Topped up S$5 for the milky thingy for hands and S$5 for feet. Have to topup for OPI designer range so I picked normal colours. No need to top up for quick dry top coat which is something I'm really pleased with. :D

2 different ladies doing my mani and pedi so I was out in less than an hour. The lady doing manicure for me seems a little distracted as she forgot to put top coat on a few of my nails and cuticle oil but other than that everything is fine. They open 2 sets of fresh tools pack for mani and pedi. Overall satisfied. :)

I failed to keep my hands off gmarket, and bought more random nail stuffs.

One end is all the same size the other end is 5 different sizes.

This is the Free Gift. A pack of 2mm silver rhinestones.

2mm White Pearl (S$5.80, free normal post)

3mm Pink Pearl (S$5.80, free normal post)

Bought 2mm White and 3mm Pink but Pink looks a lot bigger, I measured using ruler and the measurements are correct. Would be great if there's 2mm pink and other colours too.

Little box of 2mm Rhinestones (S$4.90, free normal post)

Nail Art Glue with brush (S$2.30, free normal post)

A small little bottle, took a photo of it together with an AA battery as comparison. Comes with a brush inside but yet to use it so not sure if it's good.. :D

Making resolution?

After making years after years of it and not fulfilling it, some people totally stop making New Year resolutions. Are you one of them? I was, until it I read somewhere that we’re making resolutions the wrong way!

When making resolutions you've to keep in mind two really important points.

1. Is it Realistic?
2. Is it Clear?

Realistic.
If you think your resolution is not attainable what makes you think you’ll be motivated to reach it?

For example:
Mary’s resolution for 2011 is to lose 30kg by end of the year. She just started working and has no funds or time to carry out the plan. When she sees that her goal is too far away, she will be less motivated to even give it a try.

Let’s say Mary decide to change her resolution to lose 2kg every quarter of the year. Even if she have only lost 1kg by the first quarter, she will not feel discouraged as she’s already a step closer to loosing 8kg in a year.

Be Clear.
Some general resolutions I’ve often heard of:
I will eat healthier, I will exercise more, I will not spend excessively, I will be nicer, I will put in more effort in my studies and the list goes on…

Being clear on your resolutions means defining your resolution and putting effort into coming up with plan for your resolution.

For example: I will eat healthier.
Define healthier? Less meat? More Vegetable? Home cooked food? Organic food? Be precise and you’ll find it easier to accomplish it.

Many a times we make resolutions that have what I call “loopholes” in it. It’s easy to say I will quit smoking by end of the year or I will save ten thousand dollars this year. Most people after making such resolutions, by the 2nd or 3rd month, they will totally forget about it.

Since the resolution is for “the end of the year”, most often then not people tend to have the idea that there are 12 more months, I’ll start next month, there are 11 more month, I’ll start next month… and promptly forget about the resolutions made, until the end of the year comes and since they’ve already wasted 1 year, might as well use back the same resolution next year right?

All these are just my 2 cents worth, if you’re starting to come up with next year’s resolution, hope you’ll consider the 2 points above.. and all the best in realizing your resolutions. :)

What do you do when your nail polish starts to chips?

Normal respond would be to clean them away using nail polish remover, right?

I do that too.. but not before I do a little experiment with it! :)

In 2011, one of the hits in nail polish would be Shatter Nail Polish. Just in case you've been leaving under the rock in the world of beauty, Shatter Nail Polish also known as Crackle Nail Polish are nail polish applied on top of a dried nail polish (as base) and cracks form while it dries, creating an unique artwork.

Pedicure done using OPI Katy Perry's Teenage Dream + Black Shatter by Michelle. :)

I've 2 Shatter colours from OPI, they are Silver Shatter and Black Shatter.
Base nail polish is China Glaze For Audrey + Matte Magic.

This is how Silver Shatter and Black Shatter looks like without top coat on..
Notice that silver shatter doesn't look as obvious as the black shatter..

But with a normal top coat on, the silver shatter looks more obvious and I actually prefer the silver shatter effect as compared to the black shatter with top coat on. How about you? Which effect do you prefer? :)

13th December, noticed brows are super messy and decide to clear some of the strays.

Keeping brows tidy, is one of the best "pick up" for your face.

I believe this is one of my first post on eyebrow threading in 2009. Comes with before and after photo. :D http://uglyfatchick.blogspot.com/2009/06/i-love-eyebrow-treading-beforeafter.html .

The first time I did my eyebrow treading was a few years back.. and I'm hooked since then.. Whenever I feel like my facial features are too blunt/flat, or my whole face looks very tired and restless, I'll go for eyebrow treading. :)

Neaten brows will frame your face and you'll look more alert. For those who have never tried to shaping your brows before, would suggest you get a professional to assist you with this.

Throughout the years I've tried various ways to neaten my brows and the following are my views, hopefully would be able to help you make a choice of which way is suitable for you. Do note that these are my personal views which you can use it as reference, however I would suggest doing a bit more research before making your final decision.

*Price reference true to my knowledge at moment of writing this entry and it's in SGD. :)

Eyebrow Threading ❤❤❤❤
Pain: I find that it's bearable since it's normally done really quickly.
Time: Under 3 mins.
Price: Ranges from $6-$15 depending on where you get them done.
Remarks: Most of the time would get them to thread those fine hairs on upper-lip too.
Favourite Place: Vanessa's at Buffalo Road (Little India) Eyebrow + Upper-lip at only $10*
Other Locations: Browhaus (difficult to book and more expensive), many neighborhood salons offers this service too. :)

Eyebrow Tweezing/Plucking ❤❤❤
Pain: If you find a good brow artist, you wouldn't feel much pain at all. But so far 90% of the time it's still pain, so I don't really like getting them plucked. :'(
Time: 3-5 mins, depending on the skill of the eyebrow artist & how much strays you have. :D
Price: Ranges from FOC to $15 depending on where you get them done.
Remarks: Normally comes free with facial or makeover at cosmetic counters, you can even learn to do them yourself at home too. :)
Favourite Place: Home. I try not to pluck them unless I really really don't have the time to get them threaded.
Other Locations: Neighborhood salons, beauty counters, even some hair salons offer this service too! :)

Eyebrow Waxing ❤❤
Pain: Somewhat painful. :( Especially for my wallet. :P
Time: 15-20mins? Longer time as you have to wait for wax to heat up and to cool.
Price: More expensive! Ranges from $16 to $25 depending on where you get them done.
Remarks: There's waxing for upper-lips too. :D
Favourite Place: None. I don't really fancy paying so much each month for my brows. :p
Other Locations: Pink Parlour ($19.25), Benefit Brow Bar ($22), Strip ($25/$30-Man)

Eyebrow Shaving ❤
Pain: Zero pain (unless you cut yourself -.-')
Time: Under 3 mins
Price: Mostly FOC
Remarks: Normally comes free with facial, makeover at cosmetic counters, you can even learn to do them yourself at home too. Not recommended as hair grows out very fast since it's not removed from the roots.
Favourite Place: Home. For days my skin is all sensitive and I can only resort to shaving to tidy my brows.
Other Locations: Neighborhood salons, beauty counters, most places offers this service.

Completed the Run in 1:28:49.16 hr.

Super excited about the run since it's my first run after so many years of "rest". :p
Achieved 3 goals. :)

Goal 1: Go for the Run.
Waking up early is not my forte really.. :p

Goal 2: Complete the Run.
The previous time (a couple of months back) I tried to run, I only managed to do 2KM before giving up. :p

Goal 3: Complete the Run in 1hr 30mins or less.
I've done 10KM runs in 2007 and 2008 and both timings are under 1hr 30mins.
So that's my goal this time. :)

Oh. and this time it only took 2 days for my muscles to recover.. :D

Hubby and I woke up early and went to the designated place to make our vote count.

Since it's quite sometime we had a full Saturday to ourselves.. We decide to walk around to get some travel shoppings done and also get a new laptop so that I can clear my current computer for my brothers to use... (I'm still in the mist of clearing.. I know I'm really slow... :p )

Took an hour ride on the bus to the new Clementi Mall. :D

So the other day I decided to clean my nail polish drawer cause my nail polish remover somehow leaked. :(

Can't wait to open up the package (that's currently sitting in hubby's room) tomorrow after work.. Super excited!! Hope it didn't break or leak.. :(

Astig is becoming an issue for me, after wearing corrective cosmetic lens that only corrects degree, my asig power and degree both seems to snowballed overtime.. which finally caused me to make the decision to invest in toric lens in case my degree snowballs any further..

Currently I'm using those normal monthly toric lens that's lightly tinted. The ones I've just bought are coloured one and I can't wait to try them out.. :D

Gawd, I think I'm getting a bit naggy.. Just a simple post about my new lens which I've yet to try on and I've spent the past 10mins rambling on.. hahas.

Alright. I shall stop here and stop boring you girls with my random ramblings..

I'm still trying to get used to my iphone.
The photo quality will never be able to compared to my PEN.. but PEN is kinda bulky to bring around every single day, really.. :(

Prefer running on treadmills but hard to find a good gym that doesn't close early, confirm have space for me and it's around where I stay.. :(

Random thoughts while on my way home.

(Very random side note: I’m drinking fresh milk for dinner tonight. Have to take something before taking medication.)

1. Those who complains habitually are often those who are given opportunities but know not how to count their blessings. Like while complaining about your loved one not loving you enough, you’re not counting the blessing that you have at least someone to love. Or when you’re giving at task at work, you complain the work is too tough or too much, even before starting on it, count your blessing that you have at least a job, while some others gets retrenchment and can’t find any jobs due to low qualifications or age issues.

2. I truly believe while using the effort to complain about life being unfair, you're spending less effort in something that is more important. Like if you’re complaining to your friend on the phone during working hours instead of working, isn’t that wasting time that can further used to be improving your performance at work? I’m glad that most people I work with are hardworking people, giving their best in whatever they do, if not one day I sure vomit blood due to high blood pressure.

3. Lastly I’m very thankful for all my kind friends who put in the effort to make my day. Even though it could be just reminding me to breath, at least I know someone still cares. :D Muacks to all those who have been or are still here for me. :)

Anyway I was hungry and was craving pasta so we went into a shop that sells bread and other food like pasta. :D

The pasta that looks really small plate and harmless is actually very spicy!

I'm glad I managed to finish it. :D

Sometime back I went out with my friends to have dinner. We walked from Cityhall to Iluma cause we wanted a change.

We were hungry and chose a Japanese restaurant we've not tried before since it's still open..

The service is so poor I really have to rant here..
We ordered our meals with green tea. We were almost done with the meal and yet no drinks can be seen. Had to request for our tea to be served. -.-'

Whenever we want to order food, or call for the bill, there's always no one around to serve us. Totally regret stepping in. Guaranteed 3 of us will not step in again.

Dear Spammer,

Firstly if you do not have your own mailing list, please create you own and not simply copy from somewhere. This is call information stealing and it shows how lazy the business owner is, thus ensures that no one would want to support LAZY business owners

Simply copying other's mailing list without asking the receivers if they would like to subscribe to it. It's liken to forcing people to see your advertisements! If you think this is right, I seriously doubt anyone taught you civil and moral education in school or at home.

Secondly, email is something personal just like your mobile numbers, how would you like it if someone passes your number around and you receive 100s of calls or smses a day from people you don't know asking you to purchase things from them? Wouldn't you be pissed?

Thirdly, if you have not learn the simple thing call respect, I don't think you are fit to do business and I will not support your business.

Lastly, What right do you have to say please delete or ignore your email if we're not interested? These emails have become an eyesore and is disrupting our lives. If you're on your way to work or school and in a hurry and yet you have to go through a road of 20 people passing out flyers which you have the right to reject, but will you not be affected?

I'm simply stating facts and if you're unhappy with it, you may show this to your parents and even your teachers and ask them if anyone of them likes to receive junk mails in their email and what they think of people who sends these mails.

Am sending this to all who sends me junk mails because I hope you girls can learn to respect people's privacy, understand your customer's needs and hopefully to stop thinking selfishly.

23rd Birthday Treat (Part 2) 22 April 2011

This is part 2 of my advance 23rd Birthday Celebrations.

We were walking around Suntec (the intention was to see the wedding fair) but the event was more for photoshoot which we had already done, so we aborted the "walk" and decide to look for place for dinner.

By the way we went to Maggie (Bluebay) for a quotation and she still remember us! Since she's too busy (there's 2 other couples looking for her at the same times. :p we took the new namecard and will visit her in the new shop location again. :D She's very sweet to remember us. :)

Anyway, back to the expensive yet very satisfying dinner. :D
We went past a signboard for Victoria Peak and decide to check the place/menu out.
It was 5pm and dinner starts at 6pm so we made reservations and decide to return at 6pm to have our dinner there. :D

5 course dinner + 1 plate of Roasted Meat
S$100 per person dinner. :D

Food: 8.5/10
Service: 9.5/10

The food is good, the service is so far the best I had. Feels like home, almost everyone speaks in canto and maybe I am a Cantonese so I feel very "at home". :D

After dinner, decide to dropby Raffles City's watsons to check out the Member Sale.
Glad there wasn't much queue unlike the previous time at Suntec.. Phew..

Spent S$80+ on these.. :D

The bubble footspa thingy is "Treasure for the day". Have been thinking to purchase it for quite sometime but can't bear to part S$39.90 for it so when I saw that it's S$28 for member, I just grab it. It's the first item I took. :D

Recently in ❤ with OPI nail polish.
❤ the smooth-ness and easi-ness to apply and how the colours always comes out in a way it's so pretty. :D

My regular OPI shop is having some sales promotion and some of the nail polish were going for S$10 each! Yes, you've ~~heard~~ read right.. S$10 for 1 authentic normal size bottle of OPI nail polish (inclusive of free normal local postage!)

After purchasing the really awesome Pirates of the Caribbean, I decide to add more brighter/darker colours to what I currently have.. So I've more colours to play around with. :D

That could be one of the reason as to why I've not receive any magazine after paying for a 2 year subscription.

On 20th December 2010, I subscribed to HER WORLD magazine and was told that subscription would start from March 2011 issue.

Today, I walk pass the newstand and they are already selling the May issue but I've yet to recieve a single issue. -.-'

Early this month, I called their subscription hotline to enquire on the status of my subsciption. A staff tells me their system show that I did not have an subscription with them for Her World Magazine. I told her I had gotten the subsciption at their roadshow and would like to speak with someone who can assist me with this issue. She put me through to another staff who then tells me that I've got a 1 year subsciption? and after knowing that I've not recieve the March issue she says they will be sending me my March issue. It's almost end of April and I've yet to see a single issue! -.-'

It's 4 month since I've paid for my subsciption order, really wonder where my order went to... outer space??

Grandfather in law's funeral.

A short 15mins post.
Just want to mark this day.

Ah ma is stronger than I am. Every time I see her cry I just can't stop my tears. :'( Sending ah gong off is something I didn't expect to be so soon. I'm just a grand daughter in law but sometimes they treat me better then my own grandparents do. Never did I expect myself to tear so much. Even as I type this I'm tearing. Shall stop soon before hubby gets angry. He doesn't like to see me all teary.

Thank you all for the care and concern. A big thank you to those who have to put in more effort because I had to be away and for my company for sending flowers. Your thoughts are very much appreciated.

April's not a good month for me.
Been to the Doctor's 3-4 times this month, another one coming soon this week.
Really tiring month.

(1) 小故事大道理故事一：谁是傻瓜?
「傻瓜缴学费学习，聪明人以傻瓜缴的学费学习」--巴西谚语

有一个楞头楞脑的流浪汉，常常在市场里走动，
许多人很喜欢开他的玩笑，并且用不同的方法捉弄他。
其中有一个大家最常用的方法。
就是在手掌上放一个五元和十元的硬币，
由他来挑选，而他每次都选择五元的硬币。
大家看他傻乎乎的，连五元和十元都分不清楚，都捧腹大笑。
每次看他经过，都一再的以这个手法来取笑他。
过了一段时间，一个有爱心的老妇人，就忍不住问他:
「你真的连五元和十元都分不出来吗?」
流浪汉露出狡黠的笑容说:
「如果我拿十元，他们下次就不会让我挑选了。」

※默想:
当人自以为聪明时，其实正显出愚昧和无知。

有一个外科医生告诉学生:
「当个外科医生，需要二项重要的能力:
第一丶不会反胃，第二丶观察力要强。」
接着，他伸出一只手指，
沾入一碟看来令人作呕的液体中，然後张口舔舔手指。
他要全班学生照着做，他们只好硬起头皮照做一遍。
医生颔首一笑说:
「各位，恭喜你们通过了第一关测验。
不幸的是，第二关你们都没通过，
因为你们没注意到我舔的手指头，不是我探入碟中的那根手指。」

※默想:
你有没有仔细而认真的观察，现在从事的工作是否有不佳之处?
及时调整，永远不晚。一个认真的人也必是一个智慧的人。

(3) 小故事大道理故事三：两个家

有一个人搭船到英国，途中遇到暴风，全船的人惊慌失措，
他看到一个老太太非常平静的在祷告，神情十分的安详。
等到风浪过去，全船脱离了险境，
这人很好奇的问这老太太，为什麽一点都不害怕。
老太太回答:
「我有两个女儿，大女儿叫马大，已经被上帝接走，回到天家，
二女儿叫马利亚住在英国。
刚才风浪大作时，我就向上帝祷告，如果接我回天家，我就去看大女儿，
如果留我性命，我就去看二女儿，
不管去那里我都一样，所以我怎麽会害怕呢?

※默想:
无论是甚麽样的遭遇任何事，总不致惧怕。
把命运交托上苍，充实而用心的过好每一天。

(4) 小故事大道理故事四：小花的依靠
「没有乌云，没有暴风雨，便没有美丽的彩虹。」---芬生

有一朵看似弱不禁风的小花，生长在一棵高耸的大松树下。
小花非常庆幸有大松树成为她的保护，
为它挡风挡雨，每天可以高枕无忧。
有一天，突然来了一群伐木工人，
两三下的功夫，就把大树整个锯了下来。
小花非常伤心，痛哭道:
「天啊!我所有的保护都失去了;
从此那些嚣张的狂风会把我吹倒，滂沱的大雨会把我打倒!」

远处的另一棵树安慰她说:
「不要这麽想，刚好相反，少了大树的阻挡，阳先会照耀妳丶甘霖会滋润妳;
妳弱小的身躯将长得更茁壮，妳盛开的花办将一一呈现在灿烂的日光下。

※默想:
当失去了一些以为可以长久依靠的东西，
自然会有难过及割舍的痛苦，
但其中却隐藏着无限的祝福和机会。

是那麽清晰明显，甚至是令人满心喜悦的。

(5) 小故事大道理故事五：没有失败，只有暂时停止成功

如果你已经为人父母，当你的孩子正在学习走路时，你会给他几次机会？
你会在他跌倒十次之後，让他改坐轮椅吗？
还是只给他二十次学走的机会，若学不会走路就要他放弃？
或者当你身边有五十个人叫嚣着劝你放弃，你就决定让他坐轮椅呢？
我想你的答案是：不会。
的确，当我间每一位父母，会给你的孩子几次机会呢？
他们都说：我会给他无数次机会，直到他站起来，学会走路为止！
是的，一直坚持到底者，最终都会站起来。
为什麽许多父母只给孩子一次联考的机会？
为什麽常用失望的口气告诉孩子不适合某种行业，要求他转行呢？
而许多人竟也因为没有坚定的信念，一遇挫折就认为自己能力不足，
因此放弃了他们的理想。
其实，凡事没有失败，只有暂时停止成功。

(6) 小故事大道理故事六：上帝的延迟并不是上帝的拒绝。
有一个人，他在二十一岁时，做生意失败。
二十二岁时，角逐州议员落选。
二十四岁时，做生意再度失政。
二十六岁时，爱侣去世。
二十七岁时，一度精神崩溃。
三十四岁时，角逐联邦众议员落选。
三十六岁恃，角逐联邦众议员再度落选。
四十五岁时，角逐联邦参议员落选。
四十七岁时，提名副总统落选。
四十九岁时，角逐联邦参议员再度落选。
五十二岁时，当选美国第十六任总统。
这个人就是林肯，因为他坚信上帝的延迟，并不是上帝的拒绝，

因此能屡仆屡起，最终成就不凡。
重要的不是发生了什麽事，而是要做那些事来改善它。
佛家说逆境是「增上缘」，可遇而不可求。
遇到困难时，重要的不是发生了什麽事，
而是你即将用什麽态度来面对，
做什麽事来改善它。

(7)淡化痛苦
少妇多日茶饭不思，日渐消瘦。老中医为她把过脉，说:「你心中有太多的苦恼事，体有虚火，
并无大病。」少妇听了如释重负，便向老中医诉说心中的种种烦恼。老中医听罢问她：
「丈夫对你感情如何？」少妇脸上有了笑容，说：「很疼爱我。」老中医又问：「有孩子吗？」
少妇眼里有了光彩，说：「有一个女孩，很懂事······」老中医边问边写，
然后把写满字的两张纸放到少妇面前，一张写着她的苦恼事，一张写着她的快乐事。他对少妇说：
「这两张纸就是给你治病的药方，你把苦恼事记着了，忽视了身边的快乐。」说着，
老中医让徒弟取来一盆水和墨汁，把墨汁滴入水盆中，只见那淡绿色的墨汁在水中散开，
很快不见了踪影。老中医说：「墨汁入水，味则变淡。人生何不如此？」不是我们承受了太多痛苦，
而是我们不善於用快乐之水混淡苦味。其实，在我们叹息甚至流泪时，快乐就在身边朝我们微笑。

(8)认错未必就是输
曾听过一个故事：
山上有二间和尚庙，甲庙的和尚经常吵架，互相敌视，生活痛苦；
乙庙的和尚，却一团和气，个个笑容满面，生活快乐。
於是，甲庙的住持便好奇的前来请教乙庙的小和尚：『你们为什麽能让庙里永远保持愉快的气氛呢？』
小和尚回答：『因为我们经常做错事』。
甲庙住持正感疑惑时，忽见一名和尚匆匆由外归来，走进大厅时不慎滑了一跤，正在拖地的和尚立刻跑了过去，
扶起他说：『都是我的错，把地擦的太湿了！』
站在大门口的和尚，也跟着进来懊恼的说：『都是我的错，没告诉你大厅正在擦地。』
被扶起的和尚则愧疚自责的说：『不！不！是我的错，都怪我自己太不小心了！』
前来请教的甲庙住持看了这一幕，心领神会，他已经知道答案了。您知道了吗？

往往，我们为了保护自己而推卸责任或与人争吵，殊不知认错未必是输，
因为认错不但能表现出个人修养，反省自己激励向上，甚至可以化暴戾为祥和。
朋友间发生冲突，如有一方能先认错，战火必然马上平息一半。

人的一生，总会扮演各种不同的角色：
家庭中，当子女不肖时，我们应该检讨自己是否未尽教养之责；
公司里，当属下绩效不佳时，我们应该检讨自己在教导管理方法上，是否出了问题；
社会上，当大家责怪环境恶劣时，我们应该检讨自己是否就是那个破坏环境的人。
转换一下角色，今日的你或许是来日的我，设身处地为对方着想也反省自己，那麽，处理事情的模式将会是另外一番风貌。
渺小的你我或许并无能力为世局扭转乾坤，但若每个生命个体能培养勇於认错丶对自己的行为负责的态度，
相信那股内心的平安与喜乐，将会不断的扩散。

(9)给人一个台阶

一天闲逛商店,看见一位顾客来退西装。
售货员发现西装有洗过的痕迹，但她没有揭穿，而是给顾客寻求了一条免於难堪的退路。
她说：“可能您家人不小心搞错了，把这西装送去洗了。
我也有类似的情况，有一次，我外出时洗衣店的人来了，我丈夫稀里糊涂地把一大堆衣服让人抱走了。
和您一样，不是吗？您看，您的衣服上面有洗过的痕迹。”
顾客听了无话可说，大概心里倒有些感激这位售货员。

这位售货员的心是善良的，因为她懂得给人一个台阶。金无足赤，人无完人。
在生活中，谁都可能有错误和失误，谁也有可能陷入尴尬的境地。
因而，给人一个台阶，是为人处世应遵循的原则之一。
英国诗人华兹华斯说过：“正义之神，宽容是我们最完美的所作所为。”
给人一个台阶，正是宽容的一种体现。
只有襟怀坦荡丶关心他人的人，才会时刻牢记给人一个台阶。

在受到伤害时，许多人都会与对方针锋相对地吵闹一番，结果使双方都十分难堪。
而美国总统林肯发火的时候，却尽情地写信发泄，等花了很多时间把信写好後，自然就心平气和了，就能理智地处理问题。
虽然宽容并不意味着一味忍让，但学会最大限度地宽容，就能避免许多尴尬。

给人一个台阶，往往会赢得友谊，得到信赖。
佛兰克林少年时十分狂傲，凡是与他意见不同的人，都要遭到他的侮辱。
後来，他及时改变了乖僻丶好辩的性格，不再给人难堪，而是坦然接受反驳他的所有正确言论。
在与人交谈时，他也和气了许多。
这种转变，使他结交了很多朋友，最终成为易於掌握公众言论的政治家。
的确，给人一个台阶，往往是拥有朋友的开始，也是自己成功的开始

(10)波赫士谈死与生
哲人说，不思考过死亡的人不知如何生存。
他的意思也许是，只有思考过死亡的人，才能好好地生活。

要理解生活，一个很好的途径就是思考死亡，把死亡想得深刻的人，生活必定不会庸碌。
因此，遐迩闻名的诗人丶小说家波赫士有足够的资格去谈生去死。

死是什麽？波赫士引用圣保罗的话说：
「我天天死亡。」什麽意思呢？
他接下来慢慢解释道：
「每一次我们不能有所感受，不能有所发现，而只能机械地重复什麽的时候，就是死亡的时刻。」
人们苟苟营营地上班下班，日日跑进同一间餐厅吃同一种食饭，没有厌倦也没有满心喜悦；
上课下课，没有理想没有目的，在生活中没有精采的时刻，没有仔细留意身边的事物，
人的生命就成了过活，就成了虚废光阴。
波赫士一言惊醒梦中人，说，这就是死亡。
的确，这已经成为一具行尸走肉。

那麽生是什麽？谈了死，总要谈生吧？
「我不想做一具行尸走肉。我尽量保持对事物的兴趣，我始终在接受各种经验。」
学生们固然发觉到上课下课丶考试测试的千篇一律，又明白这些是无法逃离的，痛苦难安地问道生存的意义。
然而，他们除了怨天尤人之外，有否去留心身边的事物，有否去寻找经验呢？
我有些当义工的朋友，他们从不说人生没有意义。

在波赫士看来，人每天皆在死亡，人每天也在诞生──诞生就是对事物惊觉，对事物保持兴趣。
儿童最懂得这些，他们不需要别人教导，自然地对身边的任何事物感兴趣。
摸摸这个，尝尝那个，有时候还有发现一些有趣的地方。
人越长大，越是忘记那些纯真的好奇，越是习惯於日常生活，对身边任何事物抱有一种工具的态度，
把它们当作工具，而忘了去感悟它，了解它，欣赏它，赞美它。
在某种种度上说，懂得感谢神恩的基督徒，他们在生活总会仔细留意，为了发现神给赐予他们的点滴恩惠，
因此他们比常人活得快活──这是种自然流露的快活，而不是在Disco中刻意寻找的快感。

刘再复在《独语天涯》一书中，赞叹了童心之纯与美。
正是这种纯洁的好奇心丶美丽的天真，让波赫士感悟到人的生命，
写出了让人叹为观止的诗歌和迷宫般的小说。

Standard Chartered Marathon Singapore 2010

This time decide to participate in "Behind the Scene" instead of running.

It'll be suicidal if I suddenly run 10km without at least 1 or 2 trial runs.. Though I doubt there's any place to actually run the full 10km with the number of people walking.. -.-'

Decide to stay over at ShaMei's place so someone can wake me up..

Slept 2hours and off we go...

It's like 2AM where our minds are confused. To be excited or to be sleepy.

After collecting our snacks and Volunteer Tees, we spent 2-3hours standing around the meeting place doing nothing but wait. -.-'

I can see my office from where I was standing. :D

Walked 1KM from meeting point to our duty station: F1 Pit!

Where we had our super early breakfast at 5am?
